PRESENTER: Megan Kraft, LPCC

SESSION TITLE: Polyvagal Theory

SESSION DESCRIPTION: Navigating Your Nervous System

Polyvagal Theory offers clinicians a powerful framework for understanding how the autonomic nervous system shapes clients’ emotional states, behaviors, and capacity for connection. This presentation provides a clear, practical exploration of Polyvagal Theory and its relevance to clinical work, emphasizing how safety, threat, and regulation influence therapeutic engagement and influence positive therapeutic outcomes.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Participants will learn to recognize autonomic state shifts in self and clients, identify cues of safety and danger, and apply Polyvagal-informed strategies to support grounding, co-regulation, and foster resilience.

  • Through experiential activities, clinicians will learn to integrate Polyvagal principles into treatment planning, trauma-informed care, and everyday therapeutic interactions.

  • Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of the nervous system’s role in healing, along with concrete tools to enhance client regulation, strengthen therapeutic rapport, and create environments that foster long-term emotional and physiological well-being.
